Capcom has revealed that the company has a major unannounced title in development that will be released before the end of the fiscal year. The fiscal year will end in March 2024.
Over the last year, Capcom has released several games in all of their major franchises. Examples include Street Fighter 6 and Resident Evil 4. It has been two years since the last Monster Hunter title, four years since the most recent Devil May Cry, and the previous Mega Man released five years ago. The unannounced games could be a new entry in any of these franchises or something else entirely. Capcom will reveal more in the next few months.
An Unannounced Game from Capcom in Development
In a Japanese Q&A section, Capcom revealed that they have an unannounced game planned that will help them reach their sales targets for the fiscal year. At the time of writing, Capcom has revealed little information about this upcoming game or what franchise it could be a part of.
Previously, Capcom has alluded to this unannounced game in July of 2023. Takashi Mochizuki of Bloomberg mentioned the news from a press hearing and how Capcom “plans to release one unannounced game, which would sell millions, by March next year.”
Further, Capcom has also announced that they will be working on a new version of their famous RE engine, titled the REX Engine. The company will not be building the new engine from scratch. Instead, the new technology and firmware will be gradually added to the existing RE Engine. It will be added to aspects such as REDox, REUI, RELog, REAssetStream, and more.
Adding REX into the existing RE Engine will bring the engine “to the next-generation level.” There’s a possibility that the upcoming game will take advantage of the new RE Engine’s framework. Capcom will likely reveal more details in the coming weeks and months, potentially towards The Game Awards 2023.
Lastly, Capcom’s most recent games, Resident Evil 4, Exoprimal, and Street Fighter 6, are available now. Each game is available on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Exoprimal is also available through the Xbox Game Pass service. Capcom will reveal more details on REX in the coming months.
