In a new 4Gamer interview, SNK producer Yasuyuki Oda revealed that the company is considering development of a new Art of Fighting game. SNK is currently developing Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, the exciting sequel to GAROU: Mark of the Wolves.
During EVO 2022, SNK announced a new Fatal Fury / GAROU title was in development. Nearly one year later at EVO 2023, SNK unveiled gameplay of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves for the first time featuring playable characters Rock Howard and Terry Bogard. Platforms and a release date for the new game were not announced, but it appears that SNK is already thinking of more games to develop.
SNK Considers New Art of Fighting Game
Yasuyuki Oda confirms that SNK is considering development of a new Art of Fighting game. According to the 4Gamer interview, the new title is in the “brainstorming” stage. Oda notes that exact gameplay systems are not concrete just yet for this new Art of Fighting game, so it could potentially be a 3D fighting game. He also states that several titles are currently in development at SNK, and a Samurai Shodown action RPG appears to be further along than the new Art of Fighting game.
When asked about Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Oda confirms that the game will feature rollback netcode since “it’s a must” for fighting games. The character voices heard in the EVO 2023 do not represent the full character roster, and the logo’s seven scratches denote Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves as the seventh game in the series. The game features a completely different system when compared to GAROU, but Breaking will be returning as a mechanic. Moreover, SNK and Oda are considering a modern / simplified control scheme for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves in a similar vein to what Street Fighter 6 currently employs.
Lastly, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is in development at SNK, and a release date has not been announced.
