Armored Core 6: How to Defeat the Smart Cleaner

Maybe it's not so smart after all.

The Smart Cleaner is the first boss players will encounter during the second chapter of Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. While not as difficult as Balteus, the Smart Cleaner can prove to be a bit of an annoyance. Here is what you need to do if you want to beat the Smart Cleaner quickly in Armored Core 6

    Preparation

While this fight doesn’t require too much preparation to face, there are some things you should consider bringing along with you.  The Smart Cleaner is yet another boss where reverse-joint legs are very useful. Bazookas, melee weapons, and missiles will be pretty efficient in dealing with this boss.

As always, be sure you have beaten any remaining Arena opponents for OST Chips. It’s always good to have some OS upgrades such as Assault Armor. After this preparation is done, you should be ready to face the Smart Cleaner

How to Beat the Smart Cleaner in Armored Core 6

Attacking the Smart Cleaner with a bazooka from above
Be sure you are directly above the Smart Cleaner when attacking.

Right away, you will notice that the Smart Cleaner has two weak points. There is a small one at the front, which is guarded by the Smart Cleaner’s huge, deadly arms. The other is on the top and is a little easier to hit. While it’s possible to attack from the front, there are fewer openings and it’s generally a more risky approach.

To effectively stagger the Smart Cleaner, you will want to get directly above it. While you will want to watch out for the fireballs the Smart Cleaner spews, a few good shots with a Bazooka or missiles will stagger the boss quickly. With the Smart Cleaner staggered you can take advantage of the front weak point.

At this point, you will want to unleash a combo of attacks. This will deal some very significant damage to the Smart Cleaner. If you rinse and repeat this process a few times, the Smart Cleaner will be gone in no time. Just be sure to be wary of those huge arms and stay in the air as much as possible.
