During EVO 2023, SNK announced the Samurai Shodown rollback netcode update will launch in September 2023. The update was originally set to release in spring 2023, but “various circumstances” were encountered during development.
Previously, the Samurai Shodown rollback netcode update was delayed due to various circumstances, including setbacks during development. A decision was made to push back the update as development continued. Fortunately, a second Samurai Shodown community beta test featuring rollback netcode was available from June 13 to 20 for PC on Steam. The test allowed fans to sample the newly upgraded online features.
Samurai Shodown Rollback Netcode Arrives Next Month
The new Samurai Shodown update will launch next month with the long-awaited introduction of rollback netcode. Online matches should run much more smoothly once the update is available. However, the Nintendo Switch version of Samurai Shodown will not receive the update, so it will retain delay-based netcode.

SNK also announced that The King of Fighters XIII: Global Match will release on November 16 for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. The upcoming re-release includes new features such as rollback netcode, expanded lobby features, and a new spectator mode. The second open beta test for The King of Fighters XIII: Global Match is currently available until August 7 for PlayStation 4. Further, The King of Fighters XIII: Global Match is backwards compatible on PlayStation 5.
KOF fans may also look forward to The King of Fighters XV DLC character Najd. She will make her debut in The King of Fighters XV on August 8, followed by returning character Duo Lon in fall 2023. In addition, a new balance patch will be released in the fall alongside Duo Lon. Another DLC character will release this winter, but SNK did not reveal the character’s identity yet.
Lastly, Samurai Shodown is available now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The Nintendo Switch version will not receive the rollback netcode update.
