Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name Appears to be Digital-Only

Available to download on November 9.

SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name appears to be a digital-only release in the west. A recent tweet by the official Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio states that the game will be available for download, and mention of a physical release is completely omitted.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will receive a physical release for PlayStation consoles in Japan. However, a physical release outside of Japan appears very unlikely at this point. This past June, Like a Dragon fan account KamurochoBros received word from retailers that there will not be a physical ESRB release of Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. SEGA and RGG Studio did not clarify the status of a physical release publicly, but the studio’s latest tweet seemingly confirms suspicions from fans.

SEGA and RGG Studio note that Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is “available for download” on November 9, implying that this will be the only format for the game. Previous Yakuza and Like a Dragon releases were highly regarded by fans who prefer physical media, and many of these releases once included complementary SteelBook cases from retailers like GameStop and Best Buy. Unfortunately, players likely won’t have this option later this year.

In the story of Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, Kazuma Kiryu discards his past in order to protect his loved ones. Following the events of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, Kiryu becomes an agent of the Daidoji Faction to fill the void left behind after severing his past. The iconic protagonist is forced into Japan’s underworld once more in Sotenbori.

Lastly, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name launches digitally on November 9 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Pre-orders are available now featuring the Legendary Dragon Pack with Daigo Dojima, Goro Majima, and Taiga Saejima.
