One Piece Day ’23 was streamed around the world in both English and Japanese, hyping up more than two million fans according to Bandai Namco Entertainment. Although One Piece Episode 1070 did not air this past weekend, fans received word on many major announcements for the franchise.
Over two million fans joined the official One Piece Day ’23 livestream with simultaneous English interpretation. This was the first One Piece event to feature a broadcast in both English and Japanese. Day 1, July 21, included a special screening of One Piece Film Red at the Tokyo Big Sight Exhibition Center. Although the movie screening was not streamed, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Shueisha, and Toei Animation shared several One Piece announcements live with its viewers on Day 2.
One Piece Day ’23 Announcements Recap – Gear 5 and More!
One Piece Episode 1071 will feature the highly anticipated reveal of Monkey D. Luffy’s Gear 5 (fifth) form! A new trailer was shown highlighting a few seconds of Luffy in action.
New DLC characters are coming soon to One Piece Pirate Warriors 4. Luffy Gear 5 will make his playable debut in September 2023 alongside two other characters. Character Pass 2 will have a total of nine DLC characters, and more details will be revealed in the near future.
The new One Piece Netflix series will premiere on August 31. Original creator Eiichiro Oda shared a special message to One Piece fans, and a new trailer was shown during One Piece Day ’23.
Eiichiro Oda’s Monsters manga will receive an anime adaptation. Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 director Sunghoo Park will direct the new anime episode. Moreover, Park is also in charge of composition with his new production studio, E&H production, animating the episode.
To end One Piece Day ’23, vocalist Maki Otsuki greeted fans on stage and performed “memories,” the original ending theme of the anime followed by “RUN!RUN!RUN!.” Otsuki also confirmed that One Piece will receive an ending theme for the first time since 2006. Then, a video message was played from Chilli Beans, the three-member female band that performs the ending song “Raise.” The new ending song will play on August 6 with Episode 1070. Additionally, SEKAI NO OWARI will perform a new main theme song for One Piece. More details about this particular song will be revealed at a later date, so stay tuned.
Lastly, One Piece Episode 1070 airs on July 30 (JST), and Luffy Gear 5 finally arrives in Episode 1070 on August 6.
