During the “Toonami On The Green” event at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, Adult Swim announced FLCL: Grunge anime premieres on September 9. This is the first update in nearly a year since Mont Blanc released its director message for FLCL: Grunge.
First announced on March 17, 2022, FLCL: Grunge is a new anime sequel to the original FLCL and the franchise’s fourth installment. FLCL director Hitoshi Takekiyo returns to direct FLCL: Grunge, and Mont Blanc Pictures will produce the animation. Production I.G. also serves as a production studio for the upcoming anime.
FLCL: Shoegaze is also in the works as another new FLCL season. Production I.G. and Studio NUT are producing the new anime with Yutaka Uemura serving as director. FLCL: Grunge premieres first on September 9 via Adult Swim as work continues on Shoegaze. A new teaser was shown exclusively to Comic-Con 2023 attendees at Toonami On The Green.
Where to Watch FLCL: Grunge
Adult Swim will air FLCL: Grunge starting September 9 on the Toonami block, which normally runs from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. local time. Exact timing for the premiere was not announced. Fans will be able to watch the anime weekly in countries where Adult Swim and the MAX streaming service are available. Once more, a release date for the FLCL: Shoegaze anime has not been announced.

Adult Swim viewers may also look forward to Lazarus, a new sci-fi anime by director Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo), studio MAPPA, and Sola Entertainment. Lazarus is a new sci-fi anime with action sequences by John Wick stuntman and director Chad Stahelski. The anime includes a score by renowned jazz and electronic artists/producers Kamasi Washington, Floating Points, and Bonobo. Lazarus is targeting a 2024 premiere.
Lastly, FLCL: Grunge premieres September 9 on Adult Swim.
