The NieR: Automata Ver1.1a anime will finally make its return with Episode 9 after nearly four months of production hiatus. To make up for lost time, Aniplex and A-1 Pictures will air four episodes of the anime at once, bringing the total NieR: Automata Ver1.1a episode count to 12.
NieR: Automata Ver1.1a began airing January 7 as an anime adaptation for the NieR: Automata game with additional scenes & context. Produced by A-1 Pictures, the anime tells the stories of YoRHa androids 2B, 9S, and A2 in a dystopian Earth taken over by machine lifeforms. The anime aired weekly until production impacts caused by COVID-9 delayed Episode 4 from January 28 to February 18. This past March, further delays would push the release of Episode 9 indefinitely, but fans may catch up on four weeks’ worth of episodes soon.
NieR: Automata Ver1.1a Episode 9 – 12 Release Date
NieR: Automata Ver1.1a Episode 9 airs on Saturday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m. JST / 6:00 a.m. EDT on Japanese broadcasting networks, including Tokyo MX and Tochigi TV. Crunchyroll will stream the anime with English subtitles on July 23 as well. Normally, English subbed episodes would release around 9:30 a.m. PDT / 12:30 p.m. EDT. Three more episodes will air right after Episode 9, so fans have four episodes to watch back-to-back on Saturday. The two-hour block will bring the total number of NieR: Automata Ver1.1a episodes to 12. More new episodes will arrive in NieR: Automata Ver1.1a second cour at a later date.

In NieR: Automata Ver1.1a Episode 8, 2B and 9S report to the YoRHa Commander about their encounter with A2. The Commander does not elaborate on who A2 exactly is, but she instead orders 2B, 9S, and Lily to find and investigate A2. While on the search, Jackass decides to fish in a bikini and offers a little fanservice for viewers. Episode 9 will continue from where things last left off as the group attempts to discover the truth about A2.
