Falcom is Developing ‘Something New’ Outside of Trails and Ys

    Tokyo Xanadu or something else?

    Published:

Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo confirms that the studio is working on a new project outside of the renowned Trails and Ys franchises. Ys X: Nordics is the company’s primary focus in the immediate future in Japan, and the company is planning to release exciting titles.

Falcom wants to “show fans something brand new” that isn’t part of the Trails or Ys franchises according to a recent Push Square interview with Kondo. The company is currently developing this new project, and Kondo did not reveal any further details. Currently, Falcom wants to ensure that Ys X: Nordics is a “rousing success” as the franchise’s 35th anniversary game.

The particular excerpt regarding this new project is available below:

“For the immediate future, the most important thing is to make sure that Ys X, which is the series’ 35th anniversary title, is a rousing success,” said Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo. “It’s also the tenth entry in the series, so there’s that aspect as well. Beyond that, we want to show fans something brand new that isn’t in either the Ys or Trails series. We’re currently working on that.”

Further, the interview reiterates that an English localization of The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki is coming “as soon as possible.” An announcement cannot be made “quite yet” by Falcom according to Kondo, but fans in the west may look forward to the Calvard saga’s long awaited English debut. Before then, players have the opportunity to catch up on the Trails series on July 7.

On July 7, Trails fans in the west may experience three story paths featuring protagonists Rean Schwarzer, Lloyd Bannings, and C in The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie. These story paths intertwine in a climatic chapter for the Trails saga. Additionally, players explore the True Reverie Corridor and unlock several secrets, additional scenarios, and mini-games. This is the latest game in the Trails series localized by NIS America, and The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki takes place afterwards as the first chapter of the Calvard saga.

Lastly, Ys X: Nordics launches on September 28 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 with Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean language options.
