SUNSOFT Announces Crowdfunding Campaign for Switch and PC Ports of Famicom Titles

SUNSOFT is bringing back even more classic games.

SUNSOFT have announced that a special Campfire crowdfunding campaign will open this July to bring three classic Famicom titles to modern platforms. The company will celebrate the Famicom’s 40th anniversary with potential Nintendo Switch and PC ports of SUNSOFT titles from the original gaming console.

The new Campfire crowdfunding campaign by SUNSOFT will open on July 14 and end on August 31, giving fans roughly a month and a half to help fund the project. SUNSOFT plans on porting classic Famicom titles Kanshaku Tamanage Kantarou no Toukaidou Gojuusan-tsugi (July 3, 1986), The Wing of Madoola (December 18, 1986), and Ripple Island (January 23, 1988) to Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam) with enough support. Campfire backers will receive additional rewards with their game copy at different tiers. These rewards include clear files, t-shirts, official soundtracks, wallpapers, and much more.

SUNSOFT Crowdfunding Campaign – Gold Cartridge

According to SUNSOFT’s newly opened Campfire page, the company is planning beyond meeting its initial goal for these Nintendo Switch and PC ports of Famicom games. SUNSOFT wants to release an officially branded gold cartridge for the Famicom since the company was unable to during the console’s initial run. Only seven publishers were allowed to engrave its own brand names onto Famicom cartridges. Despite SUNSOFT being one of these seven publishers, budget constraints prevented the company from releasing a gold cartridge.

SUNSOFT plans on sharing more details about the ports, including improvements and other features, at a later date. This particular campaign is one of SUNSOFT’s recent efforts to revitalize its library of classic IPs.

One of SUNSOFT’s upcoming game releases is Gimmick! Special Edition, which will receive a physical release by Limited Run Games. Gimmick! Special Edition includes several enhancements including achievements, Time Attack Mode, online leaderboards, save and quick load features, a “Rewind” function, Gallery Mode, and a sound test mode. Lastly, Gimmick Special Edition launches on July 6 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam.
