Final Fantasy XVI: Can You Turn Off Motion Blur?

Motion Blur settings won't be at launch.

Final Fantasy XVI is upon us, and many fans wonder about the game’s use of motion blur. As the latest title in the long-running RPG series, FFXVI is looking to innovate with an action focus for the first time. While Final Fantasy has always had action in mind, XVI takes inspiration from recent games, only offering one playable character.

With such heavy action sequences, motion blur can cause a huge strain on the eye. Here’s everything you need to know about the use of motion blur and whether or not you can toggle it in Final Fantasy XVI.

Can You Turn Off Motion Blur in Final Fantasy XVI?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to turn off motion blur at launch. Yoshi-P recently commented in the FFXVI pre-launch live stream that the team was working on adding toggles for motion blur after launch. This update could come anytime, but we suspect it won’t be until late July at the earliest.

While this could be disappointing to some, the team has put an ample amount of effort into creating a satisfying experience. The use of motion blur is for a cinematic flair in combat, like most modern titles released nowadays. Despite there not being a setting for motion blur, you do have one option to lessen its impact.

How to Fix Motion Blur in Final Fantasy XVI

To minimize the effects of motion blur, you can opt to switch your game to Performance Mode instead of Quality Mode. The latter is set to run at 30FPS and includes all features dialed up to the max, including motion blur. Performance Mode, on the other hand, gives you a bit of freedom with motion blur as it lessens the effect of it when the game is running at 60 frames per second.
