With Final Fantasy XVI just on the horizon, many collectors may wonder how to acquire any goodies related to the game. There are plenty of these to collect with FFXVI, and some of them are, unfortunately, exclusive to Japan.
Some digital items on PlayStation 5 consoles are locked behind different editions of the game. For physical collectors, Square announced fairly early on that there would be an official controller and PS5 plates to coincide with the upcoming release of XVI. Japan Is Receiving Exclusive FFXVI PS5 Plates and a DualSense
The controller has a custom design based on the world of Final Fantasy XVI. There’s a gold pattern that adorns it, and because of the pattern, it runs for the equivalent of $65. The plates, on the other hand, run for about $60. These approximations come courtesy of game8. Currently, however, both products are available exclusively in Japan.
There are a few websites, such as PlayAsia, that sell both the controller and the plates through foreign markets. However, the products come with a sizeable delivery fee and are currently out of stock. Aitai Kuji, however, does have both products in stock for pre-order now.

There is still a chance that the Final Fantasy XVI controller and plates could come back on sale before the release of the game. But considering it’s still considered a limited edition item, it’s hard to say.
Will the Controller and Plates Release Outside of Japan?
At the moment, it is currently unknown if the Final Fantasy XVI controller and plates will be available outside of Japan. In theory, it seems like a no-brainer for Square to release the items in other countries. After all, Final Fantasy is incredibly popular in the West. Considering that these are designed to be limited edition items and the game is releasing in just a few days, I am afraid that if there were to be a release outside of Japan, there would’ve been an announcement by now. Only time will tell whether or not the controller and plates will be released in other regions.
Final Fantasy XVI will release on June 22, 2023, on the PlayStation 5 exclusively.
