Final Fantasy XVI Demo Launches June 12 Worldwide

Includes an additional "special combat" demo.

Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy XVI demo launches on June 12 at 1:00 a.m. PDT / 4:00 a.m. EDT for PlayStation 5 via the PlayStation Store. The new demo allows players to sample a portion of the new action RPG and continue where they left off in the full game.

The new Final Fantasy XVI demo focuses the game’s opening hours, which is roughly two hours long according to Square Enix. Players will experience a flashback to Clive Rosfield’s teen years during the prologue section. After completing the demo’s prologue content, players may test their skills in a “special combat” demo featuring Clive and various Eikon abilities. Moreover, prologue save data from the Final Fantasy XVI demo transfers over to the full game. Save data from the special combat demo does not transfer to the full game, however.

The full schedule for the Final Fantasy XVI demo’s rollout is available below, via Square Enix:

PlatinumGames game designer and producer Takahisa Taura led a team to assist development of Final Fantasy XVI, while the Kingdom Hearts IV team worked on the game’s combat system. This collaboration may be why certain elements of Final Fantasy XVI’s combat system are reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts, including Clive’s shotlock ability.
