June 2023 marks the beginning of Summer Game Fest. The event was originally started in 2020 by Geoff Keighley. Summer Game Fest was first designed as a substitute for E3 during the Covid era. But after E3’s official cancellation in 2023, Game Fest is currently the only event that brings the entire summer of video game announcements together. But with the festivities officially starting this month, it’s hard to keep track of all the events and conferences. So, here is Final Weapon’s official guide to the first month of Summer Game Fest.
Summer Game Fest Opening Showcase
The entire event properly begins with the first showcase on June 8th, 2023. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the event will be two hours long and will start at 3 pm EST or 12 pm PST. Only two games have currently been confirmed to show up. Both Alan Wake 2 and Mortal Kombat 1 will get full gameplay showcases at the event. Hopefully, this will be the year where Geoff Keighley can prove that Game Fest will be a permanent fixture in the gaming scene.
Devolver Digital
At 6 pm EST, or 2 pm PST, the Devolver Digital conference will begin. The conference will likely be just under an hour, based on previous showcases. Not a lot is known about the conference at the moment. However, it’s a safe bet it will be just as bizarre as previous events. They’re already starting to hint at a mascot named Volvy, who is apparently “your favorite video game mascot growing up, and you just forgot. Silly you.”
I expect Devolver to be a highlight of the entire Summer Game Fest showings throughout the summer, let alone June.
Xbox Showcase
One of the most anticipated events of the summer is the official Xbox Games Showcase. The conference is set for June 11th at 1 pm EST. It will feature Starfield as well as Forza Motorsport and Fable. Xbox has recently been in a difficult spot with the troubled release of Redfall as well as a series of controversies that have been building since the Xbox One. So the Xbox Showcase is Microsoft’s chance to top a fairly mediocre showing from PlayStation at their official showcase in May.
Ubisoft Forward
Lastly, the Ubisoft Forward will be unveiled on June 12th, 2023. The conference will begin at 1 pm EST. At the moment, the only games currently confirmed to show up are Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade and Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR. It stands to reason that we will also see showcases of Skull and Bones and the upcoming DLC for Mario + Rabbids: A Spark of Hope. Considering Ubisoft’s recent struggles, this could end up being either pretty good or really bad. Only time will tell.
Final Weapon’s Coverage of Summer Game Fest
