Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards showrunner Geoff Keighley confirmed a Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay reveal will be featured during Summer Game Fest 2023 Showcase. Mortal Kombat co-creator and NetherRealm Studios chief content officer Ed Boon will be present at the upcoming live event.

Mortal Kombat 1 introduces a “reborn” Mortal Kombat universe by Fire God Liu Kang according to a new FAQ. The upcoming fighting game includes reimagined versions of iconic characters, a “genre-defining” story mode, new game modes, new finishing moves, and much more. Additionally, fans can expect rollback netcode for smooth online play. A full Mortal Kombat 1 reveal trailer was released, but actual gameplay footage was not shown. Geoff Keighley will host the Summer Game Fest 2023 Live Showcase on June 8 at 3 p.m. EDT from the 6,000-seat YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California. The upcoming Summer Game Fest 2023 Showcase will feature new game announcements, gameplay footage, trailers, and updates on existing games. More than 40 Summer Game Fest 2023 partners are participating in the event including Bandai Namco, Capcom, Disney, HoYoverse, and PlayStation. Moreover, tickets are now on sale at Ticketmaster.
Gamers may also look forward to Gamescom 2023: Opening Night Live, which is also hosted by Geoff Keighley. Gamescom 2023: Opening Night Live will feature new game announcements, gameplay footage, trailers, and updates on existing games just like Summer Game Fest 2023. The Gamescom 2023: Opening Night Live show is set for August 22, and the expected runtime is one and a half to two hours. On August 23, Gamescom 2023 will opens its doors to attendees at the Koelnmesse venue in Cologne, Germany.
Lastly, Mortal Kombat 1 launches on September 19 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Epic Games Store and Steam. Early access begins on September 14, and an beta goes live in August 2023 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
