PS5 is the Best-Selling Console of April 2023 in the U.S.

Nintendo Switch leads in unit sales for the month.

Circana published U.S. video game market results for April 2023, revealing that the PlayStation 5 (PS5) was the best-selling console of the month. This is the PS5’s fourth consecutive month as the leader of hardware dollar sales in 2023.

PS5 was the best-selling hardware platform in dollar sales for April 2023 in the U.S. according to Circana executive director and video game industry analyst Mat Piscatella. Nintendo Switch takes the lead in unit sales in April 2023. PS5 currently leads the 2023 hardware market sales in the U.S. across both unit and dollar sales.

In April 2023, Dead Island 2 debuted as the second best-selling premium game of the month, ranking sixth in year-to-date dollar sales. Additionally, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the best-selling game of the month. Seven of the top fifteen best-selling games of April 2023 were new releases including Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, and Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster

Year-to-date hardware spending saw an 18% increase to $1.8 billion when compared to the same period in 2022. Moreover, the PS5 Dual Sense Edge Wireless Controller was the best-selling accessory in dollar sales for both April 2023 and the entire year. Video game accessory spending during the month stayed constant at $158 million when compared to April 2022.

“Video game hardware spending grew 7% when compared to YA, to $367M,” Mat Piscatella said on Twitter. “This is the highest video game hardware spend for an April month since the $420M reached in April 2020. Double-digit percentage growth in both PS5 and Switch dollar sales offset declines on other platforms.”
