ARIKA Teases Fighting EX Layer Version 3.0

Native PS5 version or update coming soon?

UPDATE: ARIKA uploaded another new video, confirming a beta build of Fighting EX Layer Version 3.0. A full reveal is expected for April 1 during EVO Japan 2023 weekend.

Original – March 23 at 7:08 p.m. ET – ARIKA released two new Fighting EX Layer gameplay videos that appear to tease a new version of the fighting game. The gameplay videos show side-stepping and improved 3D movement in ARIKA’s latest fighting game, and an official announcement may come at EVO Japan 2023

The first Fighting EX Layer gameplay video features a bout between Allen Snider and guest character Terry Bogard from The King of Fighters series. This video is only 120 seconds long, but the gameplay seems to emphasize the use of side-steeping. For example, Snider may be seen side-stepping to evade Terry’s Power Wave.

    Potential New Version or Release?

According to Gematsu, a note at the end of the first video reads: “There are just 10 days until EVO Japan 2023. As you can see, the specifications are not yet finalized. Some textures no longer displayed when we tried to reflect the chaos on background objects. The effects are still a work-in-progress. Yes, even if you witness an empty space on the day of the event, let’s try to be gentle about it and say, ‘Ah, it must have been tough.'”

The second Fighting EX Layer gameplay video appears to address a background texture problem from the first video. It was captured in 1440p at 60 frames per second with a 18,055 kilobytes-per-second bitrate via PlayStation 5’s recording feature. The first video was captured in 4K at 60 FPS and a 50,984 kilobytes-per-second bitrate.

A native PlayStation 5 version of Fighting EX Layer is unavailable, but ARIKA may be developing it if the gameplay videos serve as a tease. ARIKA is known for revealing fighting game released content around April 1, and the final day of EVO Japan 2023 is April 2. If ARIKA plans to make an announcement, EVO Japan 2023 may be the best opportunity for it to happen.
