In a live stream for Final Fantasy XIV, an amazing new pixel art animation for pre-orders of Final Fantasy XVI was revealed. This animation was created by Creative Director Kazutoyo Maehiro, who is known for creating pixel art in the past.
The animation is ~2 minutes long, with XVI’s main character, Clive, running alongside Torgal as Oriflamme lies in the background. Additionally, an 8-bit rendition of the theme that was played during the “REVENGE” trailer is playing in the background. A pixelated logo of ‘FINAL FANTASY XVI’ rests in the top left, alongside a reminder to pre-order the title now.

Incorporating a pixel art animation into an ad for pre-orders for Final Fantasy XVI is just another example of the dedication from Creative Business Unit III, the division at Square Enix handling the title. This team is best known for its work on Final Fantasy XIV, and the numerous expansions it has received over the years.
The Director of FFXVI is Hiroshi Takai, with Yoshi-P serving as the Producer for the title. Ryota Suzuki, best known for his phenomenal work on Devil May Cry 5, is the Combat Director for Final Fantasy XVI. Lastly, Masayoshi Soken is the Composer for this title, with glimpses of his work shown off throughout the trailers for the title released thus far.
A description of the game is available below from its product listing:
The sun is setting upon the land of Valisthea. For centuries, people have flocked to her Mothercrystals to partake of their blessing—the abundant aether that fuels the magicks they rely upon in their everyday lives. But as the aether begins to fade and the lifeless deadlands spread ever further, so too does the struggle over the final flickers of the Mothers’ light grow ever more fierce. Bloody battle rages across the realm, rival nations sending their ultimate weapons against each other: the Dominants. Men and women within whom sleep the world-shattering power of an Eikon. There are few in Valisthea whose lives have not been touched by this war for the crystals’ blessing, and Clive Rosfield, firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria, is no exception. Unlike most, however, the vicissitudes of fate are to reveal to him the dark truth that lies at the heart of his world, and lead him on a mission to destroy those selfsame Mothercrystals the rest of the realm hold sacred.
Final Fantasy XVI is due out June 22, 2023, exclusively on PlayStation 5. The game will remain a PS5 exclusive for six months when it is then able to release on other platforms.
