Kirby and the Forgotten Land was a monumental launch for the series, and the game quickly became the best-selling Kirby game of all time.
Nintendo’s second quarter earnings release for fiscal year ending March 2023 reveals Kirby and the Forgotten Land sold 5.27 million copies worldwide for Nintendo Switch. The Switch game surpassed sales of Kirby’s Dream Land, which sold 5.12 million copies for the original Game Boy. After three decades, Kirby’s Dream Land’s best-selling status in the Kirby franchise is no more.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the fastest-selling game in the entire Kirby franchise as well. The game surpassed five million copies in just seven months, which is momentum seen in some of Nintendo’s biggest Switch releases (Thanks, GoNintendo).
Kirby is not the only franchise reaching incredible milestones, however. Animal Crossing: New Horizons recently became the best-selling game of all time in Japan with roughly 10.5 million copies sold. Further, Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold over 40 million copies around the world as of September 30, 2022.
Since launch, Nintendo Switch sold over 114 million units worldwide. More sales data will arrive in Nintendo’s third quarter earnings release, which usually lands in February before the fiscal year ends.
