    Dragon Quest franchise surpasses 85 million copies sold

    Celebrating a milestone on its 35th anniversary.

    Square Enix revealed the Dragon Quest franchise surpassed 85 million copies sold worldwide as of March 31, 2022.

    The fiscal year 2022 annual report reveals the updated sales figure for the Dragon Quest franchise, which includes physical shipments and digital copies sold. Dragon Quest Treasures and Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai are depicted as major upcoming titles in the franchise. Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake are missing from the annual report.

    The Dragon Quest series overview reads, “In 2021, the Dragon Quest series celebrated its 35th anniversary. This series of popular roleplaying games has sold a total of over 85 million units worldwide since the launch of Dragon Quest for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986. The series keeps creating new gaming experiences by actively utilizing advanced technologies such as 3D maps, StreetPass wireless communication, and cloud gaming.”

    Dragon Quest Treasures launches December 9 for Nintendo Switch. Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake are currently in development with no confirmed release date.
