Sonic the Hedgehog 2 becomes highest-grossing video game movie of all time in the US

In the third week available in US theaters, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 became the highest-grossing video game movie of all time in the region! The movie grossed a total of $146,258,543 in the US since release on April 8th. $15,654,119 of that total came in the third week according to Box Office Mojo (Thanks, VGC).

Roughly $142 million was grossed from international markets for a total of over $288 million. The current highest-grossing video game of all time in the world is Warcraft with $439 million. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 still has a ways to go toward that number 1 spot, but upcoming releases in countries such as Japan make the possibility more clear.

The future of the Sonic live action universe looks bright as a third movie is coming in the future along with a live action series for Paramount+. In the meantime, stay tuned at Final Weapon for the latest Japanese gaming news and updates!
