In the TGS 2021 Online talk show featuring Naoki Yoshida and Hironobu Sakaguchi, the developers shared their insight about the JRPG genre. Yoshida was allowed to share some interesting information about Final Fantasy XVI as well. Sakaguchi expressed his interest for FFXIV and FFXVI once again as he recently created a Warrior of Light for the former. Additionally, Sakaguchi is interested in developing content such as quests or costumes for FFXIV. He praised FFXIV for its ability to make players feel like a true Warrior of Light in a MMORPG environment surrounded by others.
Yoshida mentions that he’s been heavily influenced by the games Sakaguchi worked on such as classic Final Fantasy titles and most recently, Fantasian. In fact, Final Fantasy XVI uses an “expansive” skill tree system similar to the one found in Fantasian. Yoshida states that the main scenario of FFXVI is finished and the game is currently in the polishing phase. Development of FFXVI is proceeding well.
