Balan Wonderworld was Yuji Naka’s one and only chance to make a platformer at Square Enix and unfortunately, it did not go over well. According to Yuji Naka’s own Facebook account, he lists Square Enix as a past employer with his last day at the company being April 30th, 2021. Naka is currently working at PROPE Ltd, the indie game studio he started back in 2006 after departing SEGA. We hope the best for Yuji Naka going forward in his gaming career.
*Update – June 5th* Yuji Naka shared a public statement via Twitter today regarding his departure from Square Enix. Naka did leave the company on April 30th as previously reported. According to his statement, he can’t go into detail regarding his departure. Naka further states that he is contemplating retirement since he is getting older at age 55.
pic.twitter.com/YgFT0eq2Jk
