SEGA producers Toshihiro Nagoshi and Kazuki Hosokawa share their thoughts and more details about Lost Judgment in a new Famitsu interview

Famitsu published a new interview featuring SEGA producers Toshihiro Nagoshi and Kazuki Hosokawa! They’re in charge of the upcoming Lost Judgment game, the sequel to Judgment. According to Hosokawa, there was no way they could make a Judgment sequel without actor Takuya Kimura as Takayuki Yagami. His likeness as Yagami is iconic and this is a series centered around Kimura’s vital role. The development team at Ryu Ga Gotoku studio is very enthusiastic about the sequel as sales of Judgment were very strong. The sales of Judgment were the greenlight for turning the game into a franchise for SEGA.

The title Lost Judgment was chosen to appeal to the worldwide market. By doing this, the game can be unified under one title across all regions instead of being different between regions. For example, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is titled Yakuza 7: The Whereabouts of Light and Darkness in Japan. Like the previous Judgment game, fans can expect more suspense, mystery and thrilling moments in a serious story involving detective Yagami. His companions Kaito, Sugiura and Higashi are back for the wild ride. Various elements of Lost Judgment such as tailing suspects, the combat system, AI and overall game volume are improved compared to the sequel. In fact, Yagami has a new fighting style in Lost Judgment! This fighting style is called Snake style which allows Yagami to disarm enemies with guns and knives in combat.

Lost Judgment’s setting expands past the traditional Yakuza setting of Kamurocho. This time, Yagami’s journey also takes him to Yokohama which served as a major setting for the recent Yakuza: Like a Dragon release. According to Nagoshi and Hosokawa, players will expect the events of Yakuza: Like a Dragon to have had an impact on the Yokohama of Lost Judgment. Furthermore, Lost Judgement takes place in late 2021 which is 2 years after the events of Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Between both Kamurocho and Yokohama, Hosokawa states that players will spend a lot of time in Yokohama during the playthrough. More tidbits of info from the interview are available here (Thanks to Famitsu).

Yagami’s next adventure is looking to be more expansive and exciting than we could have anticipated. We can’t wait for more information as we approach the September 24th release date later this year.
