Postal 2 is free on GoG. Why you should play it.

To celebrate the release of Postal 4: No Regerts on Good Old Games, Running With Scissors and GoG are giving away Postal 2 for free for the next two days.

For those not in the know, Postal 2 is an open world FPS game starting “The Postal Dude” as he completes daily errands which often don’t quite go according to plan.

If you were alive at the time of the games initial release in 2003 you may have caught wind of all the controversy at the same surrounding Postal 2 including how it got banned in multiple countries (namely Germany, Australia and New Zealand).

Despite this however, Postal 2 has garnered a cult following and a dedicated fanbase for a very good reason. It’s an awful lot of fun.

Postal 2 is one of the very few games I have played which manages to pull off an open world in a way that feels like it’s alive. The town of Paradise really feels like an actual town, not because of how it looks but rather because of how its residents act. Even today Postal 2’s NPC behavior is impressive and goes a long way into making the town feel alive and keeping each playthrough fresh.

While physically the open world map in Postal 2 may be way smaller than in other games, the fact that you can enter just about any building you run across along with the fact that there are secrets tucked away quite literally everywhere means that you’ll still be finding new stuff even after multiple playthroughs.

The sheer amount of ways the game lets you go about performing your daily mundane tasks is also what adds to a lot of the appeal. No two playthroughs of Postal 2 are the same which lends heavily to the sheer amount of replay value the game has.

With Postal 2 being free at the time of writing, now is as good of a time as any to give it a shot. It isn’t for everyone, but it’s still an experience worth having.

I regret nothing.

You can snag Postal 2 off Good Old Games for Free until December 18th 2PM UTC from the following link: https://www.gog.com/ (Scroll down until you see the Postal 2 banner for the giveaway and click the green “Get it Free!” button)]

Type-Moon Studio BB recently opened back in August 2019 with Dragon Quest Builders series director Kazuya Niinou as the head. Niinou has now outlined three possible games that the studio is planning to make in the latest blog post.

  • A game relating to an existing Type-Moon title
  • A new game set in a world created by Type-Moon co-founder Kinoko Nasu
  • A brand new, Type-Moon style game

The information given is somewhat vague on purpose as plans may change. Niinou states that “anything goes.” In addition, Niinou states that the Tsukihime remake is unrelated to Studio BB but looks forward to it. The studio hopes to show at least one of these games by Summer 2020.
