Sony has revealed that the PlayStation 5 has reached 97.9 million units sold, while Marvel’s Wolverine has sold 2.4 million copies. By comparison, Insomniac Games’ last games, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, sold 5 million copies after 11 days.
A total of 2.6 million PlayStation 5 units were shipped between June and September 30, 2026. This is a 0.9 million decrease from the same period in the previous fiscal year. That said, there are now 127 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network as of September 30, 2026, which is up eight million from the same period the previous fiscal year. Further, software for both the PS5 and PS4 combined sold 88.2 million units during Q2, which is up 7.9 million from the same period in the previous fiscal year. 8.2 million units were first-party titles, which is an 1.9 million increase. Plus, 78% of software sales were full game software digital downloads, which is up six percent from last year.
Marvel’s Wolverine is available now on PlayStation 5. Final Weapon reviewed the game and gave it a 2/5. We described it as a “frustrating mess. The narrative is ruined by poor pacing and character writing, even with the brilliant voice-over for those characters. As for the gameplay, while it is one of the best parts of the overall experience, the lifeless combat and overt handholding made for a title that was more obnoxious than fun. This is an undeniable blemish on Insomniac’s time with the Marvel license and one that I have no intention of replaying anytime soon.”
The next game from PlayStation, God of War Laufey, will release on May 20, 2027. Despite Sony Santa Monica delaying it from its initial February 16 release date, pre-orders for the game are still live on the PlayStation Store and other local/online retailers.
