Fittingly, the announcement came on November 4, “Nice Butt Day”, a Japanese play on words. 11/04 can be read “ii oshi”, translating to “nice butt”. Earlier this year, the anime aired an adaptation of the spin-off manga Oshiri Dandy the Young. It features a story by Robinson Haruhara and art by Akihiro Kikuchi. The manga focuses on the adventures of the titular Butt Detective’s father. The manga initially released in Shueisha’s Saikyō Jump magazine in 2020. Its 11th compiled book volume will ship on November 5.
Butt Detective initially premiered on NHK International in 2018. The series focuses on a detective with a butt for his face and his partner, a small brown dog named Brown, as they solve crimes. Last year, new episodes started premiering on October 4. Further, the most recent anime film in the franchise, Butt Detective: Star and Moon, premiered in theaters in Japan on March 20, 2025.
Lastly, Toei Animation describes the story of Butt Detective as follows:
He’s chivalrous, cunning, and his looks are anything “butt”… Meet Butt Detective, a gentleman whose catch phrase is, “Hmm…I smell a case.” Every day, he poots the big city’s cases to rest. Join Butt Detective and his cast of funny allies as they solve mysteries together.
