Sony Pictures has officially obtained the film rights for Mouthwashing, and has put a film adaptation of the game into production. Karyn Kusama will direct the film, while Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay will write the script.
Kusama has previously directed Destroyer and Jennifer’s Body, as well as episodes of the TV series Yellowjacket. Both Hay and Manfredi have worked with Kusama in the past, providing the scripts for Destroyer as well as another film known as The Invitation. According to Deadline, Scott Derrickson, director of The Black Phone and Sinister, will produce the movie alongside C. Robert Cargill and Vince Cheng under their collective Crooked Highway banner.
Mouthwashing initially released on PC via Steam in 2024. The game is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. A physical edition will release at a later date via Fangamer. Check out the launch trailer for the new console versions of Mouthwashing below:

Despite its short runtime and few gameplay sequences, the sequences that are there create so much tension and add great depth to its main characters.
