A report from Aftermath has revealed that Sucker Punch Productions has recently suffered the layoffs of 26 employees. The announcement comes a few weeks after the release of Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition.
An internal email sent to Sucker Punch staff members states the following:
“After carefully observing the challenges in the market and reviewing the team needs for our next project, we’ve decided to make some staffing reductions. Several positions across Sucker Punch will be eliminated as a result. We know this is a lot to take in, and we want to assure you that we did not make this decision lightly. We have given this a lot of attention and worked to support our affected colleagues during this transition as well as we can. … There’s no getting around that this is a hard day. Next week we will go into more details about the future.”
Last year, Sucker Punch and Sony announced new leadership that would take over the company starting at the beginning of 2026. Specifically, Brian Fleming passed his role as studio chief to Jason Connell and Adrian Bentley. Sucker Punch’s most recent game, Ghost of Yōtei, is available now on PlayStation 5 alongside the new Complete Edition.
Final Weapon reviewed the new edition and gave it a 4/5. We described it as a “great DLC release. The Most Wanted mode captures the best parts of the game’s combat mechanics, while the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion creates a brilliant story that retroactively improves the base game’s narrative. While it may be a tad short, the replayability and short price point are more than enough to justify the purchase.”
