Xbox Job Listing for Coordinating the ‘Launch of Physical Games’ Surfaces

Xbox seems to be doing what PlayStation won't.

A new job listing for an Xbox Games Supply Strategist that would “coordinate the launch of physical Xbox games” has surfaced on LinkedIn. The recent listing seems to indicate that Xbox is committed to the future of physical media.

The full listing states that the Supply Strategist will “coordinate the launch of physical Xbox games across all platforms, lead development & oversee execution of global supply positioning strategies across all stages of the product lifecycle, ensure that inventory is positioned to deliver working capital/cost/service goals, and oversee the sales & channel execution of those games.”

At this time, Xbox has neither confirmed or denied if its next major console, Project Helix, will support physical media. However, Xbox recently launched its new disc-to-digital program, which allows players to claim a digital entitlement to “thousands” of physical Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S games by inserting discs into their console. The physical disc will continue to work exactly as intended after the digital claim, meaning that others can still play that game physically.

This is in stark contrast to PlayStation, which confirmed in July 2026 that it is ending all physical disc production in January 2028, meaning that all future games released afterwards on PlayStation consoles will release exclusively in digital format. This confirmation means that, while games like God of War: Laufey will get a physical release, titles like Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophecy may not get the same treatment. Only time will tell if Xbox intends to follow PlayStation’s lead, or if it will work to continue to release physical media as the recent job listing implies.
