SEGA and RGG Studio have begun to release new story trailers for STRANGER THAN HEAVEN, starting with a trailer focusing on Act 1 in the city of Kokura, Fukuoka in 1915. Each new trailer will focus on one of the five cities, or stages, of STRANGER THAN HEAVEN, starting with Kokura and ending on Kamurocho—the birthplace of the Yakuza / Like a Dragon franchise.
As previously announced, STRANGER THAN HEAVEN takes place in the following cities:
- Kokura, Fukuoka (1915)
- Kure, Hiroshima (1929)
- Minami, Osaka (1943)
- Atami, Shizuoka (1951)
- Kamurocho, Shinjuku (1965)
The story focuses on Makoto Daito (VA: Yu Shirota), a young Japanese-American boy who searches for a better life by heading on a “ghost ship” heading from San Francisco to Japan. Makoto is joined by an older boy named Yu Shinjo (VA: Dean Fujioka), who is an ambitious and contentious fellow who forms a bond with him. After being caught by Orpheus (VA: Snoop Dogg), Makoto becomes his sidekick, allowing him to learn the tools of the underworld trades.
As a showman, Makoto can hone into various sounds and tunes on the streets to gain inspiration for original compositions. He can handle his promotion and manage performances, and he’s assisted by Takashi, who is voiced by Satoshi Fujihara from Official Hige Dandism. Tori Kelly is also part of the cast as Suzy, and she performs the theme song alongside singer-songwriter Ado, Fujihara, and Snoop Dogg.
STRANGER THAN HEAVEN launches January 15, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass and PC via Steam. STRANGER THAN HEAVEN is the most wishlisted RGG Studio game of all time prior to launch. There will also be new merchandise based on the game’s collaboration with Toei Company and the 1973 film Battles Without Honor and Humanity.
