Kadokawa has revealed a brand-new promotional video, additional cast members, and the opening theme song for the upcoming anime adaptation of Rinne Ishida and Izumi’s Matsurika Kanriden (The Tale of the Scholar-Official Matsurika) light novel series. KANA-BOON will perform the opening theme song “Hana Hanashi” (Flower Talk). The anime will premiere January 2027.
Newly announced cast members include:
- Takeo Ōtsuka as Tenga Rei
- Kōtarō Nishiyama as Shisei Hō
- Shō Komura as Shunsetsu Shō
Previously announced cast members include:
- Rie Takahashi as Matsurika Ko
- Nobunaga Shimazaki as Hakuyo
Takeshi Mori is the executive director for the anime, while Yūichi Nakazawa is directing the anime at Maho Film. Tōko Machida is in charge of series composition. Manami Inose is designing the characters. Takurō Iga is composing the music.

Ishida published the first light novel in the Matsurika Kanriden series back in July 2017, with illustrations by Izumi. The 17th volume of the Matsurika Kanriden series was released on April 15, 2025 in Japan. The series is still ongoing with over 2 million copies in circulation.
Takase launched the manga adaptation of the novels in Akita Shoten’s Monthly Princess magazine in August 2018. Akita Shoten published the manga’s 12th compiled book volume on October 16, 2025.
