SEGA has announced that Sonic Frontiers has surpassed 5 million copies sold worldwide. To celebrate reaching 5 million copies sold, the Sonic Adventure 2 Shoes cosmetic DLC for Sonic Frontiers, which was previously exclusive to the SEGA newsletter, is now free to all players.
Sonic Frontiers is available now for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. While there are rumors that SEGA is developing a sequel to Sonic Frontiers, nothing has been officially announced in the four years since the game’s release.
Sonic Frontiers – Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 includes upgraded visuals and all previously released post-launch updates, such as the “The Final Horizon” story campaign and the “Sights, Sounds, and Speed” and “Sonic’s Birthday Bash” updates. The Explorer’s Treasure Box, “Monster Hunter” Collaboration Pack, Sonic Adventure 2 Shoes, and Holiday Cheer Suit are featured alongside a digital art-book and mini soundtrack.
Final Weapon reviewed Sonic Frontiers – Definitive Edition and gave it a 1/5 score, noting it was one of the worst Nintendo Switch 2 ports to date at its launch. The review states that “The visuals are rancid and ruin the best parts of the original game, like the exploration. Worse still, it makes the worst parts of the original even more frustrating, as the combat feels monotonous at best and unresponsive at worst, alongside the overabundance of technical issues. Considering the lack of an upgrade pack and new features, it’s hard to think of any reason to buy the Definitive Edition whatsoever.”
