Square Enix has revealed its financial results for the first quarter of FY2027 and reported an 88% profit growth across the board. The strong performance, perhaps unsurprisingly, is driven by Square Enix’s video game business.
The “digital entertainment” side of Square Enix’s business has seen revenue grow by 51.8% and operating profit grow by 91.8% year-over-year. According to the company, all categories of its game business (HD games, MMO, mobile/PC) has seen improved performance. Square Enix especially cited sales of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales highlighted as steady contributors in the console sector.
In addition, in “the MMO/mobile/browser sector,” Final Fantasy XIV has also seen increased revenue and player activity. That said, profit margins increased only slightly due to expenses related to the game’s upcoming expansion. Further, Square Enix highlighted the live-service titles Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest Smash/Grow as high contributors to both revenue and profits.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is set to conclude the Final Fantasy VII Remake Series and launch in Spring 2027 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam & Epic Games Store. Recently, a new finding on EpicDB has revealed multiple DLC listings for Final Fantasy VII Revelation. This includes mention of a “Story Expansion Pass”, a “Premium Edition”, a “Premium Plus Edition”, and multiple DLCs
According to a recent interview with Naoki Hamaguchi, Square Enix is “actively exploring” the possibility of releasing a Final Fantasy VII Revelation physical edition. The statement comes in the wake of PlayStation announcing that it would end all physical game production by January 2028, and its plans to double down on the plan despite the backlash.
