NetEase has revealed the first gameplay trailer for The Hood, the next character coming to Marvel Rivals. The character will release on August 7, alongside season 9.5.
The new character utilizes his dual pistols and mystical cloak to deal heavy damage to opponents and provide defensive support to teammates. His ultimate turns him into a demon, capable of doing devastating damage. Luis Martínez, more commonly known as WWE wrestler Damian Priest, voices The Hood. The trailer description outlines the somewhat obscure character:
“Cloaked in a cursed mantle, Parker Robbins lost his faith in heroes alongside his father and his world’s Captain America – replacing it with an insatiable appetite for the power to change the world. Stealing an enchanted cloak from the Vault, he remade himself as the feared crime lord, The Hood. Now, The Hood treads a perilous path through channeling dark magic, devouring enemy firepower, and transforming into a demonic abomination of cosmic magic and steel. Even after a deadly clash in Thebes with Gambit and Doom 2099 over the Tablet of Death and Entropy, his dark journey is far from over…”
In addition, the new season also features new swimsuit costumes for Winter Soldier, Star Lord, Scarlet Witch, Black Cat, Storm, and Magik. The storage size for both the PC and PS5/Xbox versions will be optimized as well. Specifically, the PC version will have a decrease of 40 GB, while the console versions will decrease by 15 GB. The first half of season 9 released on July 9, and featured playable character Jubilee. It also included a major rework to Black Widow, giving her a faster rate-of-fire and adjusting her ultimate so that it won’t one-shot enemies. Furthermore, it featured a major change to team-up abilities and gave every single character now has two team-up loadouts they can choose from.
Lastly, Marvel Rivals is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is in development.
