Xbox has announced, via a new article with Entertainment Weekly, that a Sea of Thieves film adaptation is in development. Destin Daniel Cretton, and his production company Hisako Films, will produce the film.
Destin Daniel Cretton is most known for his work with the Marvel universe, namely his role as director for Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In an interview, company CCO Matt Booty stated the following about the project: “The main character of a Sea of Thieves game is actually the player and the community. So if you sit down to think about Sea of Thieves, it’s not, ‘Who are the main characters?’ ‘What’s the plot?’ It’s a super social game, but there’s a tone to Sea of Thieves. It’s built on a very cooperative community, so you can start to sense what that’s going to be like.” Currently, a director is not yet attached to the project.
Sea of Thieves is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Steam page describes the game as follows:
Sea of Thieves offers the essential pirate experience, from sailing and fighting to exploring and looting – everything you need to live the pirate life and become a legend in your own right. With no set roles, you have complete freedom to approach the world, and other players, however you choose.
Whether you’re voyaging as a group or sailing solo, you’re bound to encounter other crews in this shared world adventure – but will they be friends or foes, and how will you respond?
