Nintendo has released an overview video of the Splatoon franchise, titled “A Quick Rundown on the Splatoon Series.” The video is meant to prepare players unfamiliar with the franchise before Splatoon Raiders releases on July 23.

The overview provides details on the basic mechanics of the franchise, the fashion sense that both Inklings and Octolings possess, the many idols that inhabit the world, and the conflict with both the Octolings and the Salmonids. Check out the “quick rundown” of the Splatoon franchise below:

Splatoon Raiders will release for Nintendo Switch 2 on July 23, alongside three new amiibo for the game. It’s available to pre-order for $49.99 digitally and $59.99 physically. Despite being the first single-player focused game in the series, it supports multiplayer with up to three other players online or via local wireless. In Splatoon Raiders, you play as an engineer working alongside the Deep Cut Trio (Shiver, Frye, and Big Man). After customizing your character, you will journey across the Spirhalite Islands in search of treasure. Along the way, you’ll unlock new weapons, upgrade your abilities, and gain gadgets such as a melee attack and Big Man as a rideable mount. Currently, specific story details about the game are unknown, though it will feature the return of the Salmonids.

Splatoon 3, the latest entry in the franchise, is available now on Nintendo Switch. A proper Splatoon 4 will likely release in the coming years. Lastly, the Nintendo eShop describes Splatoon 3 as follows:

Enter 4-on-4 ink-slinging battles in this colorful action shooter packed with style and attitude. As a squid-like Inkling, quickly cover your surroundings (and opponents) in ink with wild weaponry and swim through your own color to sneak and splat. Dive into the fresh fun with family and friends and make waves as a team. Get splatted by an opponent? No sweat! The goal in Turf War is to cover the most ground, so respawn and jump back into the inky action.
