Sony Pictures Entertainment has released a new featurette for the upcoming Resident Evil movie, titled “Zach Cregger on Survival Horror.” The film will premiere in theaters on September 18 in both standard and IMAX theaters.
In the video, director Zach Cregger outlines his vision for the film: “So I had this idea, for a story in the world of Resident Evil, but it’s kind of like me. Like, if I was dropped into a Resident Evil game, I’m terrible with guns, I wouldn’t know how any of them work, I would miss 99% of my shots…This is an opportunity to be loyal to the games in spirit and in tone and build a story that just puts you in that scenario again and again and again with increasing stakes.”
As previously announced, the movie will pull elements that pay homage to the gameplay of Resident Evil, such as a first-person perspective, fixed camera angles, green herbs, and characters that miss their shots. However, it will not feature any previously established characters from the franchise like Leon Kennedy or Chris Redfield. . Austin Abrams (Weapons) will play the protagonist, named Bryan. The film will also star Zach Cherry, Paul Walter Hauser, and Kali Reis. Check out the full featurette that teases some of these elements for the Resident Evil film below:
