A new article from The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that a Metal Gear Solid film adaptation is in development at Sony’s Columbia Pictures studio. Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the directors of Final Destination: Bloodlines, will direct the upcoming film.
Sony Pictures will publish the film via a first-look deal with the directors. Avi Arad and Ari Arad will produce the upcoming movie. Currently, little details about the film’s cast and story are known. Previously, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the director of Kong: Skull Island, was directing a Metal Gear Solid film at Sony Pictures. Further, it would’ve starred Oscar Isaac as Solid Snake. It is unknown whether or not the new directors will continue the work Roberts started with Oscar Isaac still in the lead role, or if there will instead be a new cast and story.
In a statement, Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein stated the following about the announcement: “Metal Gear Solid was nothing short of a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that forever revolutionized video games. We are thrilled and honored to bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life.”
