IDW have announced a new crossover event comic between both Sonic the Hedgehog and Godzilla. It will release in summer 2026.
Nick Marino, who has previously worked on the Godzilla Rivals comic, will write the crossover. Jack Lawrence is the comic’s artist. He is currently illustrating the ongoing IDW Sonic comic. Marino has said that he was heavily influenced by films like Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S and Godzilla vs Megalon, among others. Additionally, he cited Sonic Adventure as another inspiration.
The IDW Sonic Editorial team spoke with IGN:
“IDW is constantly brainstorming new potential crossovers, and we’ve always been especially excited about the possibility of bringing these two iconic licenses together. This crossover in particular is also one that fans have been asking us for loud and clear for years, so it’s been high up on the list to try to make happen. Who wouldn’t want to see the Blue Blur vs the King of the Monsters, after all?
So this idea has actually been on the IDW team’s radar for a very long time, but it wasn’t until the last year or so that all the pieces fell into place and we could get to work on it! We’re lucky to have such a great creative team to bring this story to life, and of course, this crossover would not have been possible without a tremendous amount of support from Sega and Toho!”
This is not the first collaboration between both brands, as characters from the Godzilla franchise appeared in Sonic Rumble for a limited time. Further, both franchises will receive new movies soon. Godzilla Minus Zero will premiere on November 6 in North America. Lastly, the next entry in the Sonic film franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, will premiere on March 19, 2027.
