Yuki Ikeda initially released the Thunder 3 manga in Monthly Shonen Magazine in May 2022. Kodansha publishes the series worldwide, and so far, 8 volumes are available. It describes the first volume as follows:

Pyontaro is a middle schooler whose little sister, Futaba, simply adores him. One day, he and his buddies—the so-called “Small Three”—decide to watch a weird disc their teacher lent them. Little do the boys realize this disc is linked to another universe…and while they aren’t looking, Futaba gets sucked in! Can Pyontaro and his friends find Futaba? And just what is this other world they’ve discovered?!

Recently, Kodansha has announced that it has established the Kodansha Studios subsidiary with award-winning Chinese director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, Hamnet, Eternals) and film producer Nicolas Gonda (The Tree of Life). Kodansha Studios is Kodansha’s first foray in Hollywood with a company dedicated to creating, producing, and promotion live-action film and TV adaptations of Japanese manga and novel titles.

Kodansha president and CEO Yoshinobu Noma noted that Kodansha is focusing on expansion operations overseas, with the establishment of Kodansha Studios allowing the company to be involved in production and create direct partnerships with global artists, producers and studios.
