Toby Fox has released a new post commemorating the new year, which also shares new dialogue from the upcoming release of Deltarune Chapter 5. It features new dialogue from Seam, Susie, and a mysterious character named Koody.
The most notable new dialogue teased by Fox is from Seam, the Dark World shopkeeper, who says the following: “Kris, I suppose I owe you an explanation about all this. No, you no doubt have realized yourself by now…The Shadow Crystals are far more than mere pieces of glass. In actuality, they contain a certain power. You could call this the power of ‘will.’ …No, perhaps ‘will’ isn’t right. The power they contain is…” The Shadow Crystals can be unlocked by defeating each chapter’s secret boss, and it seems chapter 5 will reveal more about their true nature.

Recently, Toby Fox released the Undertale/Deltarune winter 2025 newsletter, confirming that development of Deltarune Chapter 5 is progressing smoothly and localization is underway. Although Deltarune Chapter 5 won’t release in the first half of 2026, development for most areas, scenes, and battles in the chapter is complete.
QA testing will begin at a later date, and an evaluation of Deltarune Chapter 5’s console performance may begin as soon as January 2026. Currently, there’s some work focused on polishing the game’s visuals and fine-tuning a number of battles in Chapter 5. The newsletter also contains a music preview for the game’s third shop theme, which will play for various shopkeepers in the chapter. It also shows a spoiler-filled scene featuring Tenna.
Deltarune Chapters 1-4 are available now for $24.99 on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PC, and Mac.
