Ubisoft and FX have announced that it will be developing an original TV series adaptation of the Far Cry franchise for Hulu. The series will feature a completely original story.
Noah Hawley (Legion, Alien Earth, Fargo) and Rob Mac (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) will produce the series. The latter will also star in it. While little details about the series’ story is unknown, each season will take place in a different location with a completely different cast. The official announcement post describes the show as “the exact level of chaos your therapist told you to avoid.” While it will premiere on Hulu in North America, it will release on Disney Plus in other regions.
In a statement, Mac stated the following: “Getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized. Ubisoft has been remarkably generous, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created. And through it all, my FX family continues to lift me up with their constant belief and support.”
Hawley also stated that “What I love about the ‘Far Cry’ game franchise is it’s an anthology. Each game is a variation of a theme, the same way each season of ‘Fargo’ is a variation on a theme. To create a big action show that can change from year to year, while always exploring the nature of humanity through this complex and chaotic lens is a dream come true. I’m excited to partner with Rob and bring our shared irreverent, ambitious sensibility to the screen.”
The most recent entry in the Far Cry series, Far Cry 6, released on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2021. It is unknown if and when a new entry in the franchise will launch.
