Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo believes the Steam demo for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter had an “enormous impact” on sales, according to an interview with Dengeki Online. So far, the response to Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter has been “extremely positive,” and Kondo notes that the demo was the number one reason for purchases made on Steam in one of Falcom’s user surveys.

“We did a user survey, and the number one reason people gave for purchasing the game was, ‘Because I played the demo,'” Kondo told Dengeki. “And the platform where the demo was played the most was Steam. So in that sense, I think Steam had an enormous impact.”

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is available now for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. The game’s post-credits scene features a Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter teaser, which previews pivotal scenes of the remake. Since the game’s launch this past September, various updates have been released to add features like a first-person mode, Image Quality / Performance Settings, and other quality of life changes.

Final Weapon reviewed Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and gave it a 4.5/5, noting that the game is “the perfect introduction to Trails, with an outstanding cast, engaging gameplay, and a world impossible not to get invested in. The slow-burning narrative, while very enjoyable, can lead to monotonous sections of the game, but this is just a minor gripe considering the massive adventure at hand. New and old fans alike will fall in love with what is assuredly one of the best RPGs of the year.”

Nihon Falcom is currently developing Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter as a multi-platform worldwide release by September 2026.
