Niantic and The Pokémon Company revealed new details about its upcoming “leveling journey” update for Pokémon GO, which raises the level cap to 80. The new update is scheduled to launch in October 15 with a rebalanced leveling system with more rewards, including new cosmetics, and new Daily Adventure Egg, and more.
When the new leveling update for Pokémon GO goes live, all XP that players have earned so far will be applied to the rebalanced leveling curve to determine their new Trainer level. The XP needed for their next level may change. Players at level 23 or higher will gain at least one level Tasks for Level-Up Research for levels 41 to 50 will be removed. What’s more, Level-Up Research tasks will only be associated with levels 71 to 80, and players will retroactively receive the new avatar and storage-related rewards for all previous levels.
Starting at level 15, players can get a free Daily Adventure Egg to hatch a Pokémon and earn 10,000 XP. When logging into the game for the first time on a new day, the Daily Adventure Egg will automatically be placed into its own Incubator. Players can only hold and incubate one Daily Adventure Egg at a time, and it will hatch after exploring a distance of 1km.
Starting at level 25, players will be available to get new avatar rewards at the following levels:
- Level 25: Poké Ball Cap
- Level 30: Poké Ball Shoes
- Level 35: Poké Ball Jacket
- Level 40: Great Ball Cap
- Level 45: Great Ball Shoes
- Level 50: Great Ball Jacket
- Level 55: Ultra Ball Cap
- Level 60: Ultra Ball Shoes
- Level 65: Ultra Ball Jacket
- Level 71: Level 71 Shoes
- Level 73: Level 73 Shades
- Level 75: Level 75 Pants
- Level 77: Level 77 Pose
- Level 79: Level 79 Hairstyle (Short) and Level 79 Hairstyle (Long)
- Level 80: Level 80 Jacket
There will also be new rewards from leveling, including increased Pokémon storage, items, gifts, postcards, and more. Players at level 70 and higher will have an increased chance of becoming Lucky Friends with Trainers that they’ve achieved a Friendship level of Best Friends with.
Here are the XP requirements for key milestone levels:
- Level 10: 48,000 total XP
- Level 20:258,000 total XP
- Level 30: 1,083,000 total XP
- Level 40: 3,953,000 total XP
- Level 50: 12,753,000 total XP
- Level 60: 34,353,000 total XP
- Level 70: 85,853,000 total XP
- Level 80: 203,353,000 total XP
