Niantic and The Pokémon Company announced Pokémon GO will introduce the new Weekly Challenges feature on October 12 at 6:00 p.m. PDT. Players can join up to three other Trainers from around the world to complete a challenge, earn rewards, and increase their Friendship level with their group.
When the new update launches on October 12, Pokémon GO players will notice that the Trainer profile now has a new Social tab, where Weekly Challenges and Party Play reside. From there, players can create a group, join a group, or review a group’s progress for the current Weekly Challenge. Players can only select and complete one Weekly Challenge at a time per week. A new weekly challenge will be posted globally every Sunday at 5:00 p.m. PDT, and each weekly challenge will end the following Sunday at 5:00 p.m. PDT.
Players will be notified when they receive an invite to join a Weekly Challenge group, and they’ll have 24 hours to accept the invite. Once in the group, players can check the Social tab to review the group’s daily and overall progress, along with the remaining time. When the Weekly Challenge is completed before the deadline, players will receive Extra Friendship level progress, 20,000 XP, and 6,000 Stardust. Stardust will still be rewarded to groups that aren’t able to complete the Weekly Challenge.
What’s more, players will have the opportunity to become Friends with anyone in their group they’re not already friends with. If the Weekly Challenge is completed successfully, the extra Friendship level progress applied to this new Friend. By the end of 2025, there will be matchmaking with other Trainers for Weekly Challenges in a new update.
