According to Deadline, actor Paul Walter Hauser is in talks to join the cast of Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil film adaptation. He would join Austin Abrams as a member of the cast when the film premieres on September 18, 2026.
Paul Walter Hauser is an Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning actor who has previously worked on shows and movies such as Black Bird, The Naked Gun, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. He will also star in the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic, titled Deliver Me From Nowhere. Austin Abrams will star as the movie’s lead. He has previously worked with Cregger on his latest hit, Weapons. Recently, Iconic Talent Agency listed Dariusz Wolski (Prometheus) as the director of photography for the movie.
The new movie will reportedly harken back to the series’ horror roots as a reboot, and it will mark the eighth Resident Evil film to date. Paul W.S. Anderson directed the first six, which starred Milla Jovovich. The most recent film, titled Welcome to Raccoon City, rebooted the series.
At Summer Game Fest 2025, Capcom revealed Resident Evil Requiem as the ninth game in the mainline Resident Evil franchise. Resident Evil Requiem will release on February 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. Moreover, Final Weapon had the opportunity to experience hands-off gameplay of Resident Evil Requiem at Summer Game Fest.
In Resident Evil Requiem, protagonist Grace Ashcroft, an employee of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is set to journey back to where it all began: Raccoon City. Players will have the choice to choose between first and third-person perspectives, which will allow for two completely different horror experiences.
