During Anime NYC 2025, Lucasfilm revealed a new key visual for Star Wars: Visions volume 3 before it premieres on October 29. Additionally, it screened one of the nine shorts for attendees, titled “BLACK” from Shinya Ohira and david production.
According to the official Star Wars website, “BLACK” is an “experimental short” that “combines stunning imagery and music” and “presents a psychedelic battle between past and present, light and dark, and life and death in the haunted psyche of an Imperial stormtrooper on the cusp of defeat.” Ohira has previously worked as an artist on Akira (1988), Spirited Away (2001), and Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003). He is the character designer and key animator on the upcoming short.
Volume 3 returns Star Wars: Visions to its roots, as nine anime studios will direct the nine upcoming episodes. Four studios return from Star Wars: Visions Volume 1. The studios working on Volume 3 include the following:
- “BLACK” – David Production (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
- “The Duel: Payback” – Kamikaze Douga + ANIMA (Batman Ninja)
- “The Lost Ones” and “Yuko’s Treasure” – Kinema Citrus Co. (Made in Abyss)
- “The Bird of Paradise” – Polygon Pictures (Pacific Rim: The Black)
- “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope” – Production I.G. (Attack on Titan)
- “The Song of Four Wings” – Project Studio Q (Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0: Thrice Upon a Time)
- “The Smuggler” – TRIGGER (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
- “The Bounty Hunters” – WIT Studio (Spy x Family)
TRIGGER, Kamikaze Douga, Kinema Citrus, and Production I.G. return from Volume 1. The initial season also featured Studio Colorido, Geno Studio, and Science Saru. Volume 3 will feature follow-ups for “The Ninth Jedi” from Production I.G., “The Duel” from Kamikaze Douga, and “The Village Bride” from Kinema Citrus. Additionally, a full limited series based on “The Ninth Jedi,” titled Star Wars: Visions Presents The Ninth Jedi, will air in 2026.
