Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a retail price increase for PlayStation 5 in the U.S., including base PS5 consoles and PS5 Pro. The company notes a “challenging economic environment” as the reasoning for the PS5 price increases, and accessories are unaffected.
The retail price for PS5 consoles in the U.S. will increase to the following amounts, according to PlayStation Blog:
- PlayStation 5 – $549.99
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
- PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99
Sony notes that no other price changes will be announced for additional markets for now. The price hike comes just a few months removed from one of Sony’s most successful quarters, as financial results for the three months ended on June 30, 2025 confirmed that PS5 sales reached 80.3 million units worldwide.
According to sales numbers from the financial results, 2.5 million PlayStation 5 units were shipped worldwide during the latest quarter. This is up 100,000 units from the same period during the previous fiscal year. 123 million active users were on PlayStation Network as of June 30, which is up seven million from the same period exactly one year ago, which had 116 million active users. Combined PS4 and PS5 software sales reached 65.9 million units during the quarter, resulting in a 12.3 million increase year-over-year.
Lastly, 6.9 million of the software sales were first-party games, which is up 900,000 units from the same period last fiscal year, which had 6.0 million units. What’s more, 83% of the software sales were full game digital downloads, resulting in a 3% year-over-year increase.
