Following the departure of Ironmouse and many other VTubers from VShojo, CEO Justin “Gunrun” Ignacio issued a statement on the company’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, confirming that VShojo is shutting down. In the statement, Gunrun notes that VShojo is shutting down due his mismanagement of the company and its lack of funds for future operations, as many have surmised.
The shutdown of VShojo was expected following the Ironmouse’s departure on July 21, when she revealed that she did not receive a substantial amount of revenue, along with the fact that the company owes more than $500,000 in donations to the Immune Deficiency Foundation. She didn’t comment on other specific details regarding the missing revenue and donations due to legal proceedings.
In the days that followed, prominent VTubers like AmaLee, Kuro, and Kson began to quite VShojo in droves. Kson publicly left VShojo in a livestream where she directly confronted the VShojo Japan branch’s CEO on call. Many VTubers that were once under the VShojo umbrella are expected to continue as independent talent.
Since the release of Ironmouse’s video, the Tiltify charity for the Immune Deficiency Foundation has crossed the $1.2 million mark, as of July 24. All donations on Tiltify go directly to the Immune Deficiency Foundation.
